Mrs. Solita Monsod, popularly known as Mareng Winnie, is a Filipino economist, broadcaster, television host, writer, and professor. She has been teaching in the University of the Philippines since 1963.
On October 5, 2010, Professor Monsod delivered her last lecture for the semester to her Economics students in UP Diliman. One of her students uploaded a video of the lecture on YouTube and is now going viral with over 100,000 views.
The 10-minute video captured the professor’s powerful message about U.P.’s motto of “honor and excellence”. She made strong points on leadership, governance, and integrity. Although she was speaking to her students, her insights were very relevant to many Filipinos living here or abroad.
